Receiver-in-the-Ear Devices in Victoria

A Few Things to Consider

As with any device, daily attention to cleaning is the key to maintaining optimum performance.

  • Never, under any circumstances, wash the device.
  • Whilst most modern devices give some sort of warning in the form of a "beep" when the batteries are running flat, some models may not. Try changing the batteries. If this doesn't fix the problem, don't keep trying other batteries. It is unlikely to be the battery. Try one of the other suggestions.

  • Wax can block the opening of the earpiece, and this, too, will stop the sound from leaving the device and entering your ear. Using the cleaning tools supplied with the hearing device(s) regularly, as shown, should minimise wax from entering the earpiece.
  • If you have a disposable dome earpiece fitted to your device, it may need to be changed if the device stops functioning. If you have already changed the battery and the problem still exists, then go ahead and change the dome.
  • Some devices also have a white wax protector fitted in addition to the dome. Remove the disposable dome, and you will see the white wax filter. Using the tool as shown, remove the existing filter and replace it with a new one.
  • Avoid dropping the devices on hard surfaces like tiles, concrete and floorboards. This may jar the electronics. When removing or inserting your devices, do it over a table or, better still, your bed.
  • Avoid applying hairspray, makeup or any other lotions while wearing the hearing device(s).
  • If the device(s) still does not function, then contact your practitioner.
